Newspapers Canada released its 2012 circulation data report Thursday with statistics on French and English dailies. Here are 7 interesting facts from the report:

How many daily newspapers are there in Canada?

There are 95 English and French paid dailies in Canada and 29 free dailies. That’s a grand total of 124 daily newspapers.

How many copies of newspapers are published on average daily?

Canada's daily newspaper circulation, including paid and free newspapers, is 6,000,147 copies on an average publishing day. That translates into 35,964,745 copies weekly.

Which newspaper has the highest circulation in Canada?

With the population distribution of Canada as it is, perhaps it’s no surprise that the Toronto Star has the highest daily circulation not only in the province but also the country. Here are the top 10 newspapers with the highest daily average circulation in Canada, in descending order:

Toronto Star with 357,612 copies      

The Globe and Mail with 302,190 copies

Le Journal de Montreal with 287,799 copies

La Presse with 227,206 copies

National Post with 169,566 copies

Toronto Sun with 169,219 copies

With 42 newspapers, Quebecor/Sun Media is the company with the largest number of newspapers under its umbrella. Torstar is a distant second with 13 newspapers, followed by Black Press and TC Media each with 12 and Postmedia with 10.
