The Forum Freelance Fund has opened applications for its fifth year of bursaries for safety training for independent journalists or documentary makers covering human rights issues in hazardous environments.

In addition to its annual bursaries that award up to $2,500 to Canadian journalists or journalists working for a Canadian outlet, the FFF has also introduced the Portenier Human Rights Bursary, which will grant $3,000 to a journalist for hazardous environment training regardless of a Canadian connection.

Applicants for the regular FFF bursaries can apply for either approved multi-day training courses in the U.S., U.K. or Kenya, or courses at Columbia Journalism School in New York.

Applications for all bursaries are due by June 30. More information about them can be found on FFF’s website, http://www.journalismforum.ca/forum-freelance-fundhttp://www.journalismforum.ca/forum-freelance-fund.
