I'm not sure why anyone who has watched Mr. Whyte's career through conservative media would expect any different results at Macleans ...and Macleans will suffer the same fate as the National Post, Saturday Night and Alberta Report. I was once told that one of the signs of mental disorder was the repeating the same task or action over and over and expecting different results. Greg
I guess I am a bit confused here by everyone's objections to the Macleans "Svend him packing" piece. Are we actually concerned about the fact that there was a definite bias in an editorial? I think Dornan et al are all way off base here. There is nothing wrong with Macleans saying in an editorial they think Robinson should be turfed.
I agree with Jeff that there's nothing wrong with expressing an opinion -- in an editorial. What I find remarkable about Maclean's is the placement of the opinion on the cover. It's much more than a mere editorial; the "Svend him packing" cover defines the magazine and announces to readers that all reporting inside Maclean's will have a strong point of view. Nothing wrong with that -- think tanks like the Fraser Institute and special interest groups like big unions publish point-of-view newsletters all the time. For Maclean's to do so is, however, a stunning departure from journalism by a historic Canadian media institution.
What astounds me is you people only notice bias when it pertains to icons of the left (i.e. Svend) and ignore the past biases of the old MacLean's.. So, it's ok to splash the words "How Scary" to refer to Stockwell Day?? You people either have a short memory, or are obviously left wing biased, or both. Being as you read the old McLeans, you're probably the latter. Get a clue!
