Battle for presidency of FPJQ
ShareThisThe Fédération professionnelle des journalistes du Québec (FPJQ) is holding its annual conference starting Nov. 14 in Sherbrooke, Que.
Along with seminars and professional development workshops, the conference also gives members a chance to vote on its board of directors. Current FPJQ president François Bourque isn't running again.
On his blog Fagstein, Montreal blogger and Gazette copy editor SteveFaguay Faguy, explains that "for the first time in longer than anyone can remember, the presidency of the association is being contested by more than one candidate."
In the post, titled "Should journalist associations take sides in union issues," Faguy notes:
"Both candidates say they want the FPJQ to be neutral in labour conflicts, but their interpretations of neutrality clearly differ...The debate here is whether the FPJQ should support the interests of journalism or the interests of its members (most of whom are unionized). The answer isn't obvious."
