Chatelaine EIC out, major layoffs at Rogers Communications

ShareThisRogers Communications Inc. is laying off about 900 people as part of a reorganization and streamlining plan, The Globe and Mail reports.

Chatelaine editor-in-chief Maryam Sanati was dismissed, according to a post on D.B. Scott's Canadian Magazines blog. Sanati was promoted from deputy editor in February 2008. Earlier this month, Maclean's managing editor Dianne de Fenoyl was appointed editorial director of Chatelaine. It is unclear if Sanati will be replaced or if de Fenoyl will take the helm.

Rogers told the Globe that the bulk of the positions being eliminated are in middle management, including marketing and communications, human resources and tech support. Canadian Magazines also notes that changes within the magazine division at Rogers include middle management  in trade publishing, such as the closure of, a website for older Canadians.

According to a Financial Post report, the cuts amount to a 3 per cent reduction in the company's workforce.
