CTV News Kitchener is cancelling news and current affairs show Provincewide after 29 years on the air. The show’s host and producer, Daiene Vernile, will pursue a career in political office, according to a press release.

“It has been a momentous and gratifying experience informing viewers for almost three decades," Vernile said, who is seeking nomination with the Ontario Liberal Party.

As a result of the cancellation, the station is expanding its Sunday evening newscast starting April 20 to a full hour.

“The success of our hour-long Saturday newscast has led us to the decision to expand the Sunday newscast, and we are delighted to serve our dedicated viewers who continue to demonstrate they value our efforts by tuning in,” said Michael Melling, regional news director of CTV Ontario. “We thank Daiene for all of her hard work and dedication, and wish her well as she pursues a career in politics."
