Photojournalist Eduardo Lima is the 2016 winner of the Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award.

“I’m thrilled and honoured for the opportunity to work at The Canadian Press alongside their great team of photojournalists,” said Lima in a press release. “I would like to gain a better understanding of what Canadian editors are seeking from photographers and expand my technical skills as I cover a wide range of assignments. I am looking forward to photographing sports such as professional baseball or hockey, which I am less familiar with as I grew up in Latin America. I hope that the daily challenges and the pressure I will face during the six-week internship will push me to become a better photojournalist.”

Lima has previously worked with Metroland Media and Corbis Images, and been published in the Toronto Star and Le Monde. He’ll spend six weeks at The Canadian Press Toronto head office.

The Tom Hanson Photojournalism Award is presented by the Canadian Journalism Foundation and The Canadian Press.
