EvidenceNetwork.ca is a non-partisan, web-based project funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and the Manitoba Health Research Council to make the latest evidence on controversial health policy issues available to the media.
Internships are offered by EvidenceNetwork.ca annually. The next internship will begin September 2012 and run until the end of December 2012. Interns are not required to relocate for the internship, but may work remotely from any location.
Interns are expected to work with EvidenceNetwork.ca experts and evidence to write journalism style articles, backgrounders or OpEds and/or complete videos, infographics or podcasts under the direction of EvidenceNetwork.ca for publication and distribution in major media outlets across Canada. Interns will work in co-operation with EvidenceNetwork.ca to determine genre, topic, style and length/duration of their project(s) during their tenure. Upon completion of the internship, the Intern should have had one to several articles, videos or podcasts on pressing health policy issues published both in the mainstream media and reproduced on the EvidenceNetwork.ca website (www.evidencenetwork.ca).
Interviews will take place by telephone in August 2012. Decisions will be communicated to the Interns before August 30th, 2012. Work begins September 10, 2012 and ends December 31, 2012. Interns are paid a total of $10,000, in bi-weekly installments over the period.
Qualifications
Canadian graduate student trained in journalism, or communications are sought. A strong interest in health and policy related issues and journalism is essential. Interns must submit their resume and reason for applying to EvidenceNetwork.ca, as well as two writing, video or podcast samples.
