It’s deadline day for those looking to submit comments to the CRTC on the CBC and Radio-Canada’s upcoming license renewal hearings that are set to begin in November. All comments are due to the CRTC by 8 p.m. EST.

When hearings begin on November 19 in Gatineau, QC, the CRTC says it will “examine the public broadcaster's role in light of its powers under the Broadcasting Act.” Among the things the Commission will discuss is CBC/Radio-Canada’s overall strategy, the quality of its services in French and in English, its representation of official language minorities, and its services in northern Canada. Also on the agenda is a look at how the public broadcaster handles public comments and the accessibility of information pertaining to its management.

The hearings will also look at the broadcaster’s proposal to introduce advertising on Radio 2 and Espace Musique — an request CBC made after receiving a $115-million budget reduction over three years in this year’s federal budget.
