The Faculty of Communication Studies invites applications for a tenure-track position, which will commence August 15, 2012, subject to final budgetary approval. The Faculty of Communication Studies currently offers a bachelor’s degree program in Communication with majors in Information Design, Journalism and Public Relations. The successful applicant will be able to teach journalism fundamentals, reporting and editing for print and on-line and in the context of social media environments. The successful candidate will also be comfortable in teaching one or more courses such as Journalism in Society, Media History and Issues, and Law and Ethics.
New faculty are hired into one of two work patterns. The teaching/scholarship/service pattern has a focus on teaching with the requirement that the faculty member be involved in a research program as well as service to the Mount Royal community. The teaching/service pattern has a focus on teaching and service only. There is an option to change work patterns after tenure.
Candidates chosen for an interview will also have:
- 5 years or more of direct experience in journalism, including experience in print and web-based journalism
- Recent and relevant teaching experience at a post-secondary level
A PhD in journalism or a related field is preferred; a Master’s degree is required. Applicants interested in the teaching/scholarship/service pattern should have the ability and intent to pursue a research program.
