New editor-in-chief Anne Marie Owens has announced her management team for the National Post.

Julie Traves, currently the focus editor at The Globe and Mail, will join the Post as deputy editor on Sept. 22. Owens said in a memo that Traves will oversee all aspects of the newspaper’s operation.

“She will bring her passion for storytelling, her keen eye for narrative and her editorial acumen to work with every section editor to help bolster the content through all sections of the Post—in paper and digitally,” Owens said. “Julie’s dogged commitment to getting the very best out of people will help us navigate this next exciting chapter of the Post’s existence.”

Traves is leaving the Globe after a decade at the newspaper.

Meanwhile, Erin Valois is returning to the Post after a stint at TheScore as a supervising editor. She will start on Sept. 24 as the executive producer of digital. “Erin will be an incredible asset for us as we figure out new directions for NP/FP in mobile,” Owens said in another staff memo. “She brings her experience at the helm of a major mobile brand, a strong foundation in device-based news consumption, and the solid leadership skills to work with reporters and editors during this time of transition at the Post.”

Meanwhile, Benjamin Errett has been promoted from managing editor of features to director of strategy as of Sept. 22.

“Ben will work with reporters and editors to define new roles, help reorganize the newsroom to meet future challenges and harness analytics to guide us along the way,” Owens said. “He will identify and develop great stories and revenue generators across all content sections and on all platforms. His role will by necessity involve a focus on digital, but extends across all aspects of the organization.”

His replacement has been not named yet, although a search is underway.
