Toronto Star journalist Catherine Porter speaks to digital media and journalism students at Wilfrid Laurier University’s Brantford campus on Wednesday, Mar. 11 about ethical considerations in feature writing. She will speak about her experiences reporting in Haiti after the 2010 earthquake, where she was so moved by the plight of one family, whose small child was found alive after six days buried under the rubble of her collapsed apartment building, that she offered to pay for the child’s education. Porter, and some of her Star readers, have since become even more involved in the family’s life, which raises questions about fairness and impartiality in journalism.
