Fenlon has been acting in the role for four months, according to memo sent to CBC staff.
The following memo was sent to CBC staff on Feb. 24 from Jennifer McGuire, General Manager and Editor in Chief
I am thrilled to confirm Brodie Fenlon as the Senior Director of CBC News Digital. Brodie has been acting in the role for four months and has already proven to be a valuable member of my senior team and a skilled editorial leader.
It goes without saying that this role is an essential one as we shift our centre of gravity towards all things digital. As one of the initial architects of our digital news strategy, Brodie is also helping steer our local 2020 digital first strategy, including developing several country wide training programs.
Every week, Brodie circulates a list of “wins” celebrating great content that matches up with our stated priorities. The list gets longer each week, a testament to the amazing work all of you are doing across the country but also to the leadership of Brodie and his team.
CBC.ca is the #1 news source in the country, usage of our mobile and social content is growing by leaps and bounds and we are market leaders with innovative digital only programming and products. This only happens when leaders like Brodie and Marissa Nelson before him, commit to a vision and deliver quality content.
Brodie joined CBCNews.ca as Managing Editor in 2013. A graduate of the journalism program at Western University, he worked as a reporter for newspapers in London, Ontario and Toronto before moving to digital at The Globe and Mail. In 2011, he helped launch The Huffington Post Canada, where he served as Managing Editor of News.
During his time at CBC News, Brodie oversaw the launches of the new iOS and Android apps, of two versions of the mobile site, and of a series of interactive tools and templates. He led the teams behind the digital coverage of major news events, including the Paris attacks, the Parliament Hill shooting, the Rob Ford scandal and the federal election, which culminated in the largest one-day audience in the history of the site.
I know you join me in congratulating Brodie. We are fortunate to have him.
