Ontario Press Gallery Coordinator hiring summer intern

The Press Gallery Coordinator of the Legislative Services Division at Queen's Park is looking for an intern from May 2012 to August 2012.

The Press Gallery Coordinator provides a range of administrative support and clerical services to members of the Press Gallery. We are seeking an energetic summer intern to assist/back up the Press Gallery Coordinator.

Duties and responsibilities will include:

. Conducting internet research of newspaper on-line editions and government websites to obtain information about press releases relevant to Queen's Park media and legislation in Ontario.

. Notifies members of the Press Gallery of all press conferences by electronic media.  Maintains the bulletin board for press releases in the gallery.

. Tapes and transcribes scrums and makes the transcripts available to reporters in a timely fashion.

. Coordinates with Ministry communication aides and external media organizations to ensure press conferences are scheduled in a timely manner to enable members of the Press Gallery to attend and meet their deadlines. Contacts other levels of government to acquire documentation and logistical information about media events required by members of the Press Gallery.

. Operates Press Gallery lounge by serving snacks and drinks. Maintains record of sales, deliveries, and adequate stock of refreshments. Ensures cleanliness and maintenance of lounge facilities.

. Assists officers of the Press Gallery in membership activities and special events.

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications:

.  Enrolled as a student in a post-secondary Journalism program.

.  Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

.  Flexible and adaptable to respond to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

.  Working knowledge of standard office programs (Microsoft Office).

.  Applicants must state their commitment to meet early morning staffing requirements.

This position is based on the PTA 1 classification and the rate of pay is $15.36 per hour.
