Cited for its “dogged pursuit of issue-based stories,” the Toronto Star won the Excellence in Journalism Award (large media category) for the second year in a row at the Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) 14th Annual Awards Gala. Dozens of Canadian journalists were honored this weekend as two of the country's largest award ceremonies were held in Ottawa.
The Canadian Association of Journalists announced its annual awards for investigative work on Saturday.
That followed the Friday night ceremony for the National Newspaper Awards.

In the midst of a long reporting and editing career, Jim Travers worked as a foreign correspondent in Africa and the Middle East.Now, a $25,000 fellowship in his name will finance significant foreign reporting projects by Canadian journalists. The deadline for two RTNDF awards are just days away. The Association of Electronic Journalists offers nine scholarships to j-students. It also awards the Michael Monty Memorial Award to a broadcast j-professor, who can be nominated by students (applications for both are due April 8).

The Association of Electronic Journalists (RTNDA) has announced that Mark Dailey (the former voice of Citytv) and Ross Kentner (former Bayshore Broadcasting news director) have been awarded its Lifetime Achievement Awards for the central region.

Canadian literary and creative non-fiction journal EVENT has opened nominations for its annual non-fiction contest. Writers are invited to submit unpublished manuscripts "exploring the creative non-fiction form." Winning entries are published in EVENT. Winners receive $500 plus publication payment. Deadline is April 15.
