And in many ways, two UBC students say they felt they were paying for the mistakes made by reporters who came before came. When the Ryerson Review of Journalism was initially writing its cover story on the Margaret Wente plagiarism scandal, The Globe and Mail’s publisher Phillip Crawley told the team of student writers that  “If the Ryerson Review publishes a piece about the Globe that is balanced and fair, that will be a first.” Taking it as a challenge, the students say they were acutely aware of the challenges of writing about one of Canada’s biggest journalism stories of 2012. The Lance, the University of Windsor campus paper, received a temporary reprieve from the student government to print the final edition of the semester. The 85-year-old newspaper was ordered to end all its print productions immediately, following a decision made last Wednesday by the University of Windsor Student Alliance. But following student outcry and a Facebook campaign to save the newspaper, the board of directors has given the student newspaper until the end of the month to submit a new operating plan.

The University of Windsor Student Alliance has pulled the plug on the print publication of the campus paper The Lance. But following student outcry and a Facebook compaign to save the newspaper, the board of directors called an emergency open meeting Monday at 4:30 p.m.
