Bulatlat.com is a donor-supported alternative news website in the Philippines. Reporters cover local and international news, with a human rights focus. Bulatlat also covers alternative media developments, such as the launch of Radyo Sagada, a new community radio station. The Philippines remains one of the most dangerous countries in the world to do journalism, and radio journalists have been particularly targeted in recent years. In such an environment, it takes serious commitment for ordinary citizens and professional journalists alike to stand up and deliver the news. But they’re doing it nonetheless.

Montreal, March 25, 2011 Calling for the celebration of human diversity in society, Radio Voices Without Frontiers (RVSF) traveled the world for its fourteenth time this March 21st 2011 in a multilingual radio marathon against discrimination. Produced by the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC) in collaboration with community radio producers and stations from around the world, the international broadcast commemorated the UN International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

Dublin,  24 February 2011.  The European section of the World Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC-Europe) initiated today a three-day conference in Dublin, Ireland, to highlight community media’s contribution to plurality and diversity in Europe and define actions to reinforce the community radio movement and the right to communicate in Europe.  The conference is being organised by AMARC and hosted by CRAOL, the Community Radio Forum of Ireland. (BNNRC)The second “Knowledge Sharing Workshop on Community Radio Initiators” took place on 23 February 2011 at IDB Bhaban meeting room, Agargaon, Dhaka. The program was organized by Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) under the support of UNICEF Bangladesh. A total of 25 representatives from 14 Community Radio initiators from different parts of the country, along with Patricia Portela de Souza, Communication for Development Specialist, UNICEF and Syeedul Hoque Milky, Program Communication Specialist, UNICEF have participated in the workshop. Mr. AHM Bazlur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer, BNNRC welcomed the participants.

Reinforced by the exchanges at the AMARC 10 World Conference, the Women International Network of the Association of Community Radio Broadcasters (AMARC-WIN) celebrated the 16 days of activism against gender violence with an international campaign broadcast from November 25 to December 10, 2010. As indicated in La Plata Declaration, "Community radios express their solidarity and denounce all forms of sexual and gender violence, from domestic violence to armed conflict.” Visit: www.amarc.org/16jours . The campaign was broadcast by local community radios and networks and on the Internet in several languages and in all continents. The AMARC-WIN 16 Days Campaign highlighted activities, groups and individuals who are committed to denounce and fight against gender violence and to encourage each and everyone in their various capacities to act to eliminate it.
