The decision was announced Monday on the publication’s website. The independently owned weekly, which circulates in Montreal and Toronto, will publish its last edition on June 20.
Global News Toronto led in the television category of the Radio Television Digital News Association awards for the central region, while CBC Radio Toronto led in the radio categories.
The winners will receive their awards on June 15 during the Radio-Television Digital News Association Canada’s national conference in Toronto, and will also go on to compete for national honours.
Montreal-based La Presse has launched tablet edition of the French daily today for free, after investing $40 million. At a time of economic restraint, job losses and paywalls at other newspapers to make up advertising revenue shortfall, La Presse is taking a gamble in offering its tablet for free and hiring more than 220 employees, including 120 journalists, to work on the project.
When Boston.com buckled under the pressure of the traffic that news of the explosions sent its way, the site redirected its homepage to ScribbleLive, allowing Boston.com to still update their readers in real-time even after the site went down.
Cheques went out earlier in April, although not all contributors have been paid in full yet.
