The Ryerson Journalism Alumni Association presents "Freelance: How to do it right." This event features a panel of established freelance journalists that will discuss the ins and outs of freelancing. The comprehensive discussion will cover everything from how to make the perfect pitch to managing your finances as an independent journalist. The Toronto Star announced it will hire eight digital journalists who will be paid less than other journalists in the newsroom and is considering another round of editorial buyouts. The Star also laid off 11 full-time page editors and eight staff in the circulation department.
