This University of Maryland journalism school website features a list of American resources in the following areas: Child Neglect/Abuse; Crime/Violence; Education; Families; Health/Development; Public Supports. Each category includes a series of helpful “fast facts.”  Subscribers can receive – for free! – daily or weekly summaries of exceptional stories about children and families, advice on sources, and a bi-annual magazine for journalists called The Children’s Beat. The center sponsors annual awards for stories on underprivileged kids, two- or five-day workshops in areas such as children’s health, crime and working families, as well as other more extended training programs. While the workshops, awards and much of the information is geared toward American journalists, subscribers can also take part in online discussion groups about reporting issues, sources and story ideas having to do with children and families.
