In an April 28 memo to staff, Postmedia CEO Andrew MacLeod announced a series of cuts, including 50 temporary layoffs in sales and sales operations. There will be 30 permanent layoffs as a result of the closure of 15 community newspapers in Manitoba and Ontario.

MacLeod also said that all staff “with salaries at or over $60,000” will see pay cuts. The union says that is incorrect, as members will not be affected unless the union agrees to the reduction.

The Manitoba papers closing permanently are: The Altona Red River Valley Echo, Carman Valley Leader, Interlake Spectator (Gimli), Morden Times, Selkirk Journal, Stonewall Argus & Teulon Times, Winkler Times and The Prairie Farmer.

The Ontario papers closing permanently are: Kingsville Reporter, Lakeshore News (Windsor-Essex), LaSalle Post, Napanee Guide, Paris Star, Tecumseh Shoreline Week and Tilbury Times.

The Napanee Guide and Paris Star websites will remain, says Postmedia.
