Thirty four staff (12 unionized) are being laid off at Sing Tao (both Toronto and Vancouver), which represents a 15 per cent staffing cut across editorial, sales, admin and production. There will also be a 15 per cent executive pay cut. Sing Tao, which announced the changes April 13, is also closing its free weekly paper. Layoffs are expected to go into effect in June, says the union.
