The winners of the 2019 Canadian Community Newspaper Award winners were announced June 4, with first place for best all-round newspaper and best front page in its circulation category going to the Victoria Standard.
The CCNAs, presented by News Media Canada, are awarded annually to “(celebrate) the very best in community journalism.”

Alberta’s Cochrane Eagle won top honours for Excellence in Rural Reporting.
Nunatsiaq News took home four awards, including for best website and best new story.

The University of Toronto’s student newspaper the Varsity was awarded first place for outstanding campus newspaper and best campus website. Raneem Alozzi, Maggie Macintosh and Sherina Harris of Ryerson University’s the Eyeopener won best campus news story for their investigation Who is the mystery student who gave RSU executives an $11,000 raise?

Jackie Hong of the Yukon News won for environmental reporting in the paper’s circulation category.
