The following memo was sent to all CBC staff on July 10, 2017 from Jennifer McGuire, General Manager & Editor in Chief.

I am very pleased to announce today that Kenny Yum will be coming to CBC News as the new Chief of Staff. I am also announcing today that we will be expanding this role moving forward to include strategy and business development for CBC News.

It is an understatement to say that I am thrilled to have a leader of Kenny’s experience and digital expertise added to the CBC News team.

Kenny Yum was most recently at Huffington Post Canada – AOL Canada, where he was the founding Managing Editor of the HuffPost’s first international edition in 2011. At HuffPost, he led a diverse, award winning team with a focus on news, politics, business and lifestyle, with a particular focus on social and video.

From 2009-2011, Kenny was Editor of globeandmail.com, which he helped launch back in 2000. Kenny also served as Managing Editor of Digital for The National Post, where in 2007 he helped relaunch nationalpost.com and financialpost.com.

Kenny’s teams have won awards at the Online News Awards, the Digital Publishing Awards, Canadian Association of Journalists Awards and the Canadian Online Publishing Awards. He was a recent recipient of the inaugural Digital Publishing Award for leadership. He has won the AOL Blue Monster company award for team leadership and has been recognized at his alma mater, Ryerson, as a “Headliner” for career achievement.

Here at CBC News Kenny will be responsible for leading all of our “people” files. This includes, among other things, training, staff engagement, diversity, internships and our Make It Better group work. Kenny will be the whip for the CBC News senior team, setting and tracking objectives and working with internal stakeholders, like our Board, and external stakeholders like the various journalism organizations in the country. Kenny will drive strategy for CBC news overall and will also take on business development as the main revenue contact for CBC News as we move forward.

Kenny lives with his wife in Toronto’s east end and is a 33-time marathoner and can be found running every morning, having hit 1,300 days in a row of running. He begins his work with CBC News on July 24.
