The award honours Ali Mustafa, the photojournalist killed while working in Syria in 2014.

The Ali Mustafa Memorial Collective has opened applications for the inaugural Ali Mustafa Memorial Award for People’s Journalism. A maximum $3,000 award will be given to a freelance photojournalist to go toward a project raising awareness about a social issue or that promotes social justice activism.

The award honours the life and work of photojournalist Ali Mustafa, who was killed Syria in 2014 while covering the unfolding armed conflict in the region.

Applications are due Nov. 1, 2015. Applicants must live in the Greater Toronto Area and be under the age of 30. More information about the award can be found here.
