Position: Part-Time
Start Date: April 14, 2014
Term of Contract: 2 Months (14 April – 13 June)
Internship Stipend: $2,500

The Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) is a not-for-profit organization that promotes and celebrates excellence in journalism. The CJF Awards is the Foundation’s major annual fundraiser and the industry’s must-attend event, where Canada’s top newsmakers meet Canada’s top news people. More than 500 guests are expected to attend, including many of Canada’s top media personalities and executives.

Reporting to the administrative manager, this position is responsible for supporting planning for The Canadian Journalism Foundation’s Annual Awards gala on June 4, as well as providing general office support for daily operations. The position requires strong event planning skills, computer skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to work well with all levels of staff as well as stakeholders and vendors.

This position will be of particular interest to an individual who is a highly organized self-starter and enjoys having the broad range of responsibilities that goes with working in a small organization.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

EVENT SUPPORT  
•    Assist with execution, tracking and evaluation of the annual Awards gala
•    Assist with collecting accurate registration information from guests
•    Liaise with volunteers at the event, assist with promotion, etc.

GENERAL ADMINISTRATION
•    Maintain office supplies and filing system, and complete general office duties and coordinating mail-outs and courier services
•    Some data entry required
•    Prepare and follow-up on invoices and provide other administrative support as required

 The ideal candidate will be a professional with:
•    Experience in event organization
•    Strong knowledge of office software including Word, Excel, Publisher and Outlook required
•    Knowledge of Google Docs is an asset
•    Strong problem solving abilities
•    Accuracy and high attention to detail is key
•    Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills
•    Experience in data entry and donation handling an asset
•    Understanding that extended hours are necessary in the lead-up to the Awards gala
