Esther Enkin will take over as Ombudsman of CBC’s English services on January 1, 2013, CBC announced last week. She replaces Kirk Lapointe, who has held the role since October 2010. Lapointe will remain in a capacity to assist with the transition.

Enkin has been with CBC for more than 25 years, most recently holding the title of executive editor, where she was, among other things, responsible for bringing CBC’s Journalistic Standards and Practices up to date and “into the 21st century,” Jennifer McGuire, general manager and editor-in-chief of CBC News told CBC.

According to CBC, “the ombudsman acts as an appeal authority for complaints about journalistic standards and is independent of CBC program staff and management.”
