Friday Night Reflections: Fact vs Fiction – The Role of Media in Democracy

November 13, 2020 @ 8:30 pm - 10:00 pm

Description

On the heels of a US election, we ask: what is the role of the media in upholding democracy? In providing thoughtful analysis without being directive? In holding public figures accountable?

This week, join special guest host Mayor Naheed Nenshi in a wide-ranging conversation with journalists Ali VelshiFarah Nasser and Zain Velji. Our panellists reflect on their recent election experiences, their inside views on the challenges of staying objective, fair and accurate, and their perspectives on the role that citizens and government can play in supporting a free press and strong democratic institutions.

• Watch the broadcast on iiCanada.live in English or in Farsi

• A second broadcast will be shown at 8:30 pm Pacific | 9:30 pm Mountain

• A photo gallery highlighting Ismailis at the forefront of media will be shown 15 minutes prior to the broadcast
