Getting Started: Conversations About How to Freelance

Join us at the Ryerson School of Journalism on Tuesday, April 17 as leading editors and freelancers share their candid insights on what it takes to succeed as a freelance journalist in today’s competitive media landscape.

This half-day workshop, which will be held at the Rogers Communication Centre, features three panels aimed at journalism students and beginning-of-career freelancers. Freelance journalist Kat Eschner (RSJ MJ ’16) will moderate.

1:15-2 pm – Tools for Freelance Success, featuring Yasmine Mathurin (Freelance multimedia journalist, RSJ MJ ’16)

2-2:45 pm – Creating Your Job, with Allison Smith (Founder & Publisher, Queen’s Park Today) and Hannah Hoag (The Conversation)

2:45-3:30 pm – Working With Publications and Editors featuring Christina Varga (The Globe and Mail) and Lauren Strapagiel (BuzzFeed, RSJ ’11)

3:30-4 pm – Coffee and Networking
