March 30, 2019 @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pm

HARD TRUTHS + FAKE NEWS

A timely bootcamp for users of democracy and defenders of press freedom. Join us March 30 at the Carleton School of Journalism and Communication for frank talk and urgent collaboration as we ready ourselves for the 2019 federal election campaign.

9 a.m.: Doors open and coffee is served!

9:30 a.m: Begin the day with BuzzFeed editor Craig Silverman and a frontline briefing on the world of fake news and online misinformation.

11 a.m.: Get a preview of what’s to come in 2019 from academics, pollsters and close observers of the political and digital landscape.

Lunch: Grab a boxed lunch and hear Fergus Bell of Pop Up News explain how news organizations around the world are collaborating to fight disinformation.

1:15 p.m.: Close the day with CBC’s Rosemary Barton and timely talk about how we can prepare for the coming campaign.

In a lightning round, newsroom leaders will discuss strategies and solutions.
