Press Club – Covering the Fringe: How do we report from Canada’s social edges?

November 8, 2021 @ 7:45 pm - 9:00 pm

Journalists in Canada are under increasing scrutiny for how we cover far-right groups, fringe political parties and protests against public health measures. How do we inform the public without giving a platform to misinformation? How do we ensure we are not  censoring ideas or providing publicity to extremists? These questions strike at the larger question–what is the role of media in our democracy? On November 8, the journalism fellows of Massey College will host a panel of leading journalists and editors to discuss how they navigate these questions.

Join TVO’s Nam Kiwanuka, The Globe and Mail’s Public EditorSylvia Stead and Craig Silverman  journalist and reporter with ProPublica in conversation. Moderated by St. Clair Balfour Fellow Jonathan Montpetit
