UBC Journalism – Tainted Water Investigation Launch

There is no safe level of lead in drinking water, but due to faults and inconsistencies in the measurement of this health hazard, the danger is more widespread in many communities than the official numbers would suggest. A nationwide investigation has found elevated lead levels in 39 percent of Canadian homes, with some in BC comparable to those in Flint, Michigan, when that city’s water was found to be dangerously toxic in 2015. The results have made national headlines and prompted calls for policy change to address the problem of contaminated water. Please join us to celebrate the UBC student reporters whose year-long investigation has revealed this urgent matter of public concern.
