February 11, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

The UBC School of Journalism, Writing, and Media warmly invites you to “The Covid Magnifying Glass: How the pandemic has exposed social schisms”, a special talk featuring UBC Asper Visiting Professor and award-winning journalist, André Picard, and moderated by UBC Associate Professor Kathryn Gretsinger.

Reserve your ticket for this free public event. The webinar link and passcode will be shared with registrants via Eventbrite after registration.

About the talk:
Covid-19 has been global pandemic, but the impact has not been equal, or equitable. Rather, it has been a gendered, racialized, ageist pandemic. So how can we repair the cracks the virus exposed?

About André Picard:
For over three decades, columnist André Picard has written about healthcare issues for The Globe and Mail. Picard is the author of six books, most recently “Neglected No More: The Urgent Need to Improve the Lives of Canada’s Elders.” He is currently the Asper visiting professor at the UBC School of Journalism, Writing, and Media.

Picard was honored with the prestigious Michener Award for Meritorious Public Service Journalism and is an eight-time nominee for National Newspaper Awards, the country’s top journalism prize.

The Canadian Public Health Association conferred Picard with Canada’s first “Public Health Hero” title. The Canadian Alliance on Mental Illness and Mental Health named him as a “Champion of Mental Health”. Picard has also received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his dedication towards improving healthcare.

Picard is a graduate of the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, and has received honorary doctorates from six universities, including UBC and University of Toronto.
