Memo: Marissa Nelson new senior managing director of CBC’s Ontario region
Nelson was “instrumental” in 2020 digital strategy, according to memo.
It is my great pleasure to announce that Marissa Nelson is the new Senior Managing Director of the Ontario Region. Marissa comes to the job with amazing skills as a leader, journalist and strategic thinker. Since 2013 she has been the Senior Director of CBC Digital. Under her leadership, it has grown exponentially as Canada’s #1 digital news destination. Marissa was also instrumental in devising our 2020 Digital Strategy.
The Ontario region too is enormously successful and important to us all. CBC Toronto, CBC Ottawa, CBC Windsor and our five digital and/or radio locations (Thunder Bay, Sudbury, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo and London) make up one of our biggest regions, serving one of the most significant populations of the country. Under former Senior Managing Director Susan Marjetti, our Ontario leaders and their teams have shown great innovation and resilience despite all the challenges facing us (and our industry) over the last few years.
Marissa’s priority is to continue that tradition of excellence, explore new digital possibilities while ensuring the evolution and success of our TV and radio programs continues for years to come. A self-admitted data driven digital geek, she comes with a background in print journalism (at the Toronto Star, the London Free Press and the Hamilton Spectator) and a passion for winning. Anyone who spends time with Marissa will be won over by her enthusiasm and inspired by her energy.
Marissa takes over her new duties on November 2. Current Managing Editor Brodie Fenlon will step in as acting Director of Digital News.
We will be announcing further changes to the Ontario region in the days to come. Right now, please join me in welcoming Marissa and taking this opportunity again to thank Susan Marjetti for all she has done.
