Before that, he completed internships at The Globe and Mail and The Canadian Press. O’Beirne holds a master’s degree in journalism from Ryerson University (where he was the blog editor of the Spring 2014 issue of the Ryerson Review of Journalism) and a bachelor’s degree in drama and history from Bishop’s University. He is a self-described news junkie, whose passion for Canadian journalism will serve him well in his new role. He has a lot of great ideas for how to improve and grow J-Source, which I’m looking forward to exploring in the new year.
O’Beirne will begin his duties officially on December 15. He’ll do a week of training before the J-Source Editorial Centre at Ryerson University closes for the holidays. The site will return to its regular publishing schedule on January 5, 2015.
