Law and journalism will come together at a conference on press freedom in Canada at Ryerson University on March 8 and 9, which roughly coincides with the 30th anniversary of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
Topics at the conference, organized by Ryerson’s Law Research Center and its Journalism Research Centre, will include issues arising from regulating new media, anti-terrorism measures and government secrecy.
Postmedia’s Christie Blatchford will give a luncheon address on the first day of the conference. Also speaking this day is The Globe and Mail’s columnist Margaret Wente and Toronto Star editor-in-chief Michael Cooke. Linden McIntyre from CBC’s the fifth estate will be speaking on the second day of the conference.
[node:ad]A number of J-Source editors are confirmed to speak as well, include J-Source founding editor and current ethics editor Ivor Shapiro, education editor Mary McGuire, future of news editor Ira Basen, and computer-assisted reporting editor Fred Vallence-Jones.
