Global News Scholarship for Black students launched at King’s School of Journalism
Global News and the University of King’s College announced the launch of the Global News Scholarship, a renewable award valued at $12,000 which will be awarded to a Black student entering the four-year journalism program at the University of King’s College in Halifax in September 2022.
Applicants must self-identify as Black, and demonstrate academic excellence and community involvement. According to the university’s website, preference will be given to students who are pursuing post-secondary studies for the first time; and/or have a disability; and/or are from low-income families or are believed to have other reasons for financial need.
The scholarship recipient will have access to one-on-one mentorship with experienced Black journalists at Global News throughout the four years in the journalism program.
The scholarship follows the introduction of the Global News Journalism Award, which was created in 2020 to encourage and support diversity in newsrooms and in journalism.
Visit the University of King’s College’s website for instructions about how to apply by the deadline on March 1 at 11:59 p.m. AST.
