Globe tries Occupy Wall Street humour in celeb pages; issues disclaimer
In this week's edition of celebrity photos, The Globe and Mail pokes some fun at the stars with a little Occupy Wall Street humour — or it tried to anyway.
In this week's edition of celebrity photos, The Globe and Mail pokes some fun at the stars with a little Occupy Wall Street humour — or it tried to anyway.
As the Toronto Standard reports, when the photos — complete with biting social satire — hit the web yesterday, many people believed one writer had "gone rogue", or that the site had been hacked. This prompted a series of tweets urging others to go visit the site before they were taken down.
They weren't taken down. But the Globe did throw up this disclaimer today:
"Editor's note: Each week, Globe and Mail editors supply tongue in cheek captions to our celebrity of the week photos. This week: our Occupy Wall Street edition. Disclaimer: this isn't an endorsement of any political position, just a spot of fun."
And, for many readers, it was fun. Here are two of our favourites:
Selena Gomez, attending the premiere of "The Thing," is delighted by Eli Roth's discourse on how power belongs to those who control the means of production. You'd be good at feigning interest, too, if you were dating Justin Bieber.
And:
[node:ad]Lauren Conrad, well-known chronicler of the down and out in Orange County, wore shorts to the polo match to show her support for people who can't afford long pants, something she read about online one time or something.
