Shaw said there was no reason he should get special attention with 25,000 men being diagnosed annually, and 5,000 dying.
"The only reason we're mentioning it now," he said, "is because I had the surgery and it was successful and off we go from there."
Shaw also encouraged those watching to get tested.
"For heaven's sake make sure you get tested," he said, "Because I had no symptoms; they found this through a routine blood test." His friend's brother died of prostate cancer, he added, and then his friend tested positive — and encouraged everyone he knew to get tested.
"It was great that they found it early," said Shaw, who had an aggressive form of prostate cancer, "Otherwise I would not be here."
