Mike De Souza will join Reuters in January as the investigative resources correspondent in Canada.
De Souza was one of five staff let go by Postmedia Network when it shut down its newswire’s parliamentary bureau earlier this year and merged the remaining staff with the political desk at the Ottawa Citizen.
“I'm excited to have an opportunity to pursue investigative journalism with Reuters, which has a solid international brand,” De Souza told J-Source in an email. “In my new position, I'll be writing for a global audience about the development of Canadian natural resources and the government policies that affect the industry.”

Recently, De Souza freelanced for the Toronto Star and then joined its Ottawa bureau for a six-week stint to cover summer vacations.
“He's done a terrific job and I think reminded everyone of the fact he's a first-rate reporter, especially on the environment and resource file,” the Star’s Ottawa bureau chief Bruce Campion-Smith said in an email to J-Source.
Reuters Canada bureau chief Amran Abocar did not immediately respond to J-Source’s request for information.
