Canada’s first television station began broadcasting from Montreal on Oct. 9, 1931. The VE9EC, an experimental mechanical television project, was owned jointly by radio station CKAC and La Presse. Although practically no one had TV receivers to view the television programming at the time, VE9EC aired musical programs and a play, La paix chex soi.
