I am pleased to announce the appointment of Rob McLaughlin to the position of Regional Vice President, Editorial for Western Canada. In this expanded role, Rob will be responsible for the overall newsroom operations of The Vancouver Sun, The Province, Edmonton Journal, Calgary Herald, Leader-Post and The StarPhoenix. Editors at each of those papers will report directly to Rob.

Rob will also be relocating to Vancouver in January where he will work closely with Gordon Fisher and oversee the editorial operations of The Sun and the redesign and re-launch of The Province. Rob will continue to report to me and will be heavily involved in the roll out of the new 2.0 products at all our western papers in the coming months.

This new position is an expansion of his most recent duties as VP of editorial for the prairie region. For the past three years he has also served as editor of both papers in Saskatchewan and previously as deputy publisher at The StarPhoenix. Rob has also been instrumental in the implementation of our four platform content strategy and led in the initial development of both our tablet and smartphone products.

Rob spent a decade at CBC working as the executive producer of CBC Radio 3 and a director of digital programming for both radio and television. He came to Postmedia in 2011 from the National Film Board of Canada where he worked from Vancouver as the director of digital content and strategy and this is a return to the west coast for him and his family.

We will be announcing our plans for the editorial leadership of the Saskatchewan papers in the coming days. In the meantime, please join me in congratulating Rob on his new role and on his move back to Vancouver.
