Awards recognize student journalism published in 2014.

The University of Guelph-Humber is launching a new series of awards to “celebrate and showcase the achievements of journalism, media studies and communications students.”

The Emerge Media Awards will recognize student work in six categories: photography, writing, audio storytelling, digital design, videography and integrated communications.

Though administered by Guelph-Humber, the awards will be adjudicated by a panel of independent industry experts. Judges for the inaugural EMAs include Hamilton Spectator editor-in-chief Paul Berton, The Hockey News editor-in-chief Jason Kay, Hello! Canada art director Joanna Wood and Toronto Star editorial writer Dianne Rinehart.

The deadline for submissions is January 31, 2015, at 11:59 p.m. Submissions can be made by faculty or by the students who produced the work.
