Brockville Recorder and Times sports editor Steve Pettibone is missing.

Belleville police have issued an alert for Pettibone, who was last seen at his home in eastern Ontario at 7:30 a.m. Monday. He was on his way to work.

“His colleagues in the newsroom are very concerned for his well-being,” said his managing editor Derek Gordanier. “Steve has always been a conscientious and hard-working employee and we knew on Monday that something was seriously amiss when Steve failed to report to work by mid morning.

“This is a news story, a terrible news story we are obligated to report, while at the same time all of us want nothing more than to have Steve back, sitting at his desk, telling his usual jokes,” Gordanier added.

Correction: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated the newspaper's name. We apologize for the error.
