Canadian Business hiring one-year intern
The Canadian Business internship is an opportunity for young journalists to obtain real-world, on-the-job training at a monthly magazine.
2014 Canadian Business Writing and Fact Checking Internship
Duration: 12 months (May 1, 2014–April 30, 2015)
Pay: $2,000 per month
The Canadian Business internship is an opportunity for young journalists to obtain real-world, on-the-job training at a monthly magazine. Canadian Business interns are an integral part of the magazine’s staff, and expected to perform as such. Successful candidates will receive well-rounded training and guidance to hone their writing skills (though self-motivation will be an important factor), and opportunities exist to learn about other areas of magazine publishing, to attend industry functions and, sometimes, to travel. By the end of their internship, successful candidates should be able to write a feature story and should have several clippings to add to their portfolio. Interns will also receive training in and undertake some light fact checking.
The Canadian Business internship, founded in 1995, was the first paid magazine internship in Canada, and remains one of the country’s highest paid internship positions. Many of our interns have become writers and editors at the magazine, and some have gone on to senior positions at other publications.
This Canadian Business internship lasts 12 months, beginning May 1, 2014. Applications must be received by Friday, February 7, 2014.
Forward cover letter, resumé, a list of available references and no more than five clippings to Conan Tobias, managing editor, at conan.tobias@canadianbusiness.rogers.com (no phone calls, please). Please condense your application into as few files as possible, and be sure clippings fit onto a letter-sized sheet of paper and are printable—do not send URLs to stories published online. Serious applicants only, please.
