Up Here was named magazine of the year at the Western Magazine Awards, as well as the regional award for best magazine in Alberta and the Northwest Territories.

The awards, presented by the Canadian Medical Association, honour outstanding Canadian journalism that enhances understanding of health, the health-care system and the role of health professionals.

Maclean’s won the Online News Association award for online commentary, while the Calgary Herald won in the breaking news category.

CTV Vancouver won six television awards at the RTDNA BC Region Awards. News1130 led in the radio category with five wins. 

The Yukon News won six first-place awards in its circulation category, including best all-around newspaper and best editorial page. 

The five-year-old, Calgary-based publication won the magazine of the year award while its publisher and editor, Janine Vangool, won the editor of the year award. 

Catherine McKercher and Vinny Mosco have been named joint recipients of the AEJMC Professional Freedom and Responsibility award.

Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) is honouring Bob Thomson as the second ever recipient of its Integrity Award, to be presented at its 16th annual gala on December 4 at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel in Toronto.

The Vancouver Sun led the pack with five wins at the Jack Webster Awards. The awards acknowledge excellence in journalism in British Columbia.
