Arianna Huffington’s new book contends new and old media “are rapidly joining together to bring out the best in each other,” said a Reuters story, based on a pre-book-launch interview with Huffington.
But Huffington, whose Huffington Post makes her the unrivaled queen of blogging in the America, couldn’t resist a swipe at mainstream media in book’s introduction. Noted Reuters: “The vast majority of mainstream journalists head in the direction the assignment desk points them… In contrast, bloggers are armed with a far more effective piece of access than a White House press credential: passion.”
So… traditional journalists are flat-footed stooges, “bloggers” are passionate.
Right. That attitude is really going to encourage bringing out the best in each other.
The Huffington Post Complete Guide to Blogging is due for release next week.

Passion has nothing to do
Passion has nothing to do with it Deborah.
Huffington is twitching the bait to get a rise, just like you’re doing with the “stooges” comment. lol
Mainstream news media is not joining or even welcoming social media into their secular world, and social media proponents are not buying into the mainstream news advertising model.
If anyone thinks there is some type of joining it is only wishful thinking.
FULL DISCLOSURE separates social media from mainstream news journalism, and until this divide is closed not much will change.
Granted, a few participants on either side of the fence are making cooing sounds, but until the fundamentals separating their very diverse ideologies are settled, there won’t be any truly substantial joining.
Here’s an example . . .
Social media journalists at Vancouver’s Raincity Studios were recently barred from joining local and international mainstream news journalists on a tour of VANOC’s sports facilities.
Not much joining going on there, and not one mainstream news journalist complained, although a few social media journos voiced their disappointment as you can see in Dave Olson’s open letter to VANOC – http://tinyurl.com/5t7gms
If mainstream news companies seriously rethink their relationship with advertisers, they might save their industry and social media might consider giving them a break.
First though, it means mainstream journalists have to quit looking the other way and report information in a timely manner.
If you do that, social media will have a hard time undermining your livelihood.
Social media is based on full disclosure.
Burn this fact into long term memory.
You can learn more about what social media is doing to “unjoin” from mainstream news here . . .
