Investigative journalism was already on the ropes when the
economic crisis hit. But where there’s a will, there’s a way. The Canadian-American Real
News Network
was one of the first efforts to keep the teeth in journalism
on both sides of the border. More recently, the Canadian Centre for Investigative Reporting has emerged as a registered charity in support of investigative
work. Linked to their site is Alex Roslin’s blog  Investigate This!
Roslin, an award-winning investigative journalist who has worked for the fifth
estate, Disclosure and numerous print publications, invites people to share
story ideas and help themselves to his “300-link blog-Rolodex.”

Meanwhile, south of the border the trend of
community-supported investigative journalism continues. The latest edition is the Center for Public Integrity, joining
the ranks of ProPublica, the Investigative Reporting
Workshop
and the Center
for Investigative Reporting
.
