J-Source announces interim managing editor
J-Source is losing our managing editor.
H.G. Watson is leaving J-Source to join TVO’s Current Affairs and Documentaries team as assistant editor of TVO’s Ontario Hubs.
During her three years at J-Source, Watson has worked tirelessly to produce and oversee insightful, in-depth reporting about Canadian journalism as well as maintain a lively and provocative mix of stories on our site. Her diligence in pursuing breaking news has meant J-Source is the home of up-to-date news about the state of journalism and the media in Canada.
She has also been responsible for the significant expansion of J-Source’s national coverage, recruiting freelancers from across the country and commissioning stories from them about media and journalism issues from coast to coast. Thanks to our Patreon donors, we have been able to pay those contributors she has recruited.
Her last day at J-Source will be Oct. 19. We will miss her skills and enthusiasm.
We expect to be posting a job description and application link for a replacement managing editor in the coming weeks, so watch for it in J-Source. We will also highlight it in the weekly newsletter — you can sign up for that here.
Steph Wechsler will be the interim managing editor, beginning Oct. 22.
Steph is a Toronto reporter for National Observer covering the environment, politics and human rights. She holds a masters from the Ryerson School of Journalism where she supported projects such as the 2017 issue of the Ryerson Review of Journalism as managing editor of print, the Local News Conference newsroom as managing editor, and as a researcher on The Price of Oil, an award-winning collaborative series examining the impacts of Canada’s oil and gas sector, co-published by National Observer, Toronto Star and Global News
She can be reached at steph@j-source.ca .
