Media on the Move: August 1
Here’s our regular update on the moves, hires and promotions in Canadian journalism. Want your job move featured? Tweet it to us or use the hashtag #cdnmediamoves.
A number of new promotions were announced at Rogers’ magazines. This comes after 75 full-time staff were laid off in June 2018, and Steve Maich, senior vice-president of the digital content and publishing, and Lianne George, editor-in-chief of Chatelaine, resigned their positions.
This is obviously bittersweet as @FLAREfashion recently lost so many of our talented colleagues, but I’m v. proud to lead a brand I love—one that was also my very first internship out of J-school—as we explore the reality of being a millennial woman at this precise moment in time https://t.co/HE9UPSUbhc

After a month of transition, I’m very pleased to share new leadership for some of the lifestyle brands at @Rogers. @CarleyFortune is now EIC of @Chatelaine. Carley’s been behind many of the changes that really put Chat on the digital map, and is a natural to lead the team. (1/5)

This one has me all 😭😭😭: Kim Shiffman (@shiffer) is the new EIC of @todaysparent, and I know she will take good care of that special team and the brand I love so much. Kim is so steady and smart, and I’m happy to have her at the helm. (3/5)

I’m thrilled to share that next week I start at the @CBC, where I’ll be hosting a daily news podcast that will launch this fall. I can't wait to work with the incredibly talented journalists, editors and producers throughout the organization. 1/2

.@graham_journal, superb chronicler of Alberta politics, bids farewell to Edmonton Journal next month.
I was extremely fortunate to report alongside him and learn from him as a cub. I'll miss Thomson's columns but glad to hear he'll still journalize. #ableg #cdnpoli— Jason Markusoff (@markusoff) July 28, 2018
